Life. And The Will to Live
30 Apr 2010
11:07 pm
Lori Ziganto
I read this article in The Telegraph the other day about a 22 week old fetus, an unborn baby, who survived an abortion attempt and lived for two days; unattended to, abandoned and left to die. Alone.
After I stopped weeping and saying a prayer for that innocent life lost, a couple of other things struck me in the article.
A spokesman for the ProLife Alliance said: “There cannot be anybody in the world who is not horrified by a story like this …

Gulf Oil Spill From NASA Earth Observatory
30 Apr 2010
10:47 pm
Donald Douglas
Lots o’ stuff on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Via NASA’s Twitter stream and Memeorandum, “Gulf Oil Spill Creeps Towards Mississippi Delta.”
And the untouched photos are at NASA Goddard’s Flickr page:
And don’t miss the phenomenal coverage at The Big Picture, “Oil spill approaches Louisiana coast.”
Radical leftists have already exploited the tragedy, but see Sarah Palin, “Domestic Drilling: Why We Can Still Believe“:
All responsible energy development must be accompanied by strict oversight, but even with the strictest oversight in the world, accidents still happen. No human endeavor is ever …

Palin Hacker Could Go To Prison For 25 Years
30 Apr 2010
6:15 pm
Melissa Clouthier
Wonder what will happen to the kid since his dad is politically connected:
A Tennessee jury on Friday convicted the man who hacked Sarah Palin’s e-mail account on two of four charges — computer fraud and obstruction of justice. The panel did not find David Kernall guilty guilty of wire fraud. It deadlocked on an identity theft charge.
The former University of Tennessee student faced as much as 50 years for breaking into Palin’s e-mail while the former Alaska governor was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008.
The two charges for which …

Sarah Palin: Drill, Baby Drill!
30 Apr 2010
5:26 pm
Melissa Clouthier
Sarah Palin encouraged Americans to still believe in domestic drilling. From her Facebook page she says:
In the coming days, there will be hearings to discover the cause of the explosion and the subsequent leak. Actions will be taken to increase oversight to prevent future accidents. Government can and must play an appropriate role here. If a company was lax in its prevention practices, it must be held accountable. It is inexcusable for any oil company to not invest in preventative measures. They must be held accountable or the public will …

Democrats – talk about tone deaf
30 Apr 2010
5:11 pm
McQ
Sometimes I just love the Democrats. They’re so out-of-touch they’re just comical at times. After fomenting a near meltdown over the Arizona immigration law, with charges of nazism and cries of “show me you papers!” flying hither and yon, the Democrats introduce an immigration framework with what?
Improved papers, of course.
Yes, the Dems screwed the pooch and included a national ID card in their proposed legislation. And a biometric one at that. As someone characterized it, it’s a “super Social Security card”. Remember when you were assured that your SS card/number …

Dem-Created Dustbowl
30 Apr 2010
2:28 pm
Dave Blount
Literally nothing is more malignant than liberalism, which is destroying our country politically, economically, morally, socially, demographically — and even physically. For example, liberals are deliberately reducing our most productive farmland to a dustbowl.
Instead of pink blossoms and green shoots along Highway 5 in April, vast spans from Bakersfield to Fresno sit bone-dry. Brown grass, dead orchards and lifeless grapevine skeletons stretch for miles for lack of water. For every fallow field, there’s a sign that farmers have placed alongside the highway: “No Water = No Food,” “No Water = …

Nutty Professor Discovers Animal Right to Privacy
30 Apr 2010
2:21 pm
Dave Blount
Even as they eat away at what little remains of our right to do business and to earn a living, our liberal rulers continue to expand the rights they grant to animals. Dr. Brett Mills of the same University of East Anglia that brought us the ClimateGate scandal has published a study that takes the next illogical step toward utter lunacy by calling for a “right to privacy” to be granted to animals filmed for wildlife documentaries.
At the heart of the documentary project is the necessity for animals to be …

Obama Tough Guy On Illegal Immigration! That Was Then…
30 Apr 2010
2:16 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Once again we see that anything that Obama says has an expiration date. In 2006, then Senator Obama was a tough guy on illegal aliens. Flash forward to 2010 when he wants desperately to find an issue with which he can beat up on Republicans, suddenly Barack Obama pretends to be every illegal alien’s buddy.
In 2006 an illegal alien named Elvira Arellano was discovered working illegally in Chicago. She escaped going into the custody of ICE officials and ended up hiding in a law breaking Catholic Church in Chicago. She …

And You Thought Asking For Papers Was Bad……
30 Apr 2010
12:51 pm
Kathleen McKinley
The left went bonkers over the part of the new Arizona law that would require people to carry papers to prove their citizenship. Many wrote that it was like Nazism or Communism.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. Many commenters made me pause to think about it. No matter how we feel about getting illegal immigration under control, do we really want that?
Well, gird you loins my friends, because you haven’t seen anything yet. You want government control? The Democrats are more than willing to give you much more:
Democratic …

Delicious: Crist’s Name to Appear on the Bottom of FL Ballot

That’s what happens when you run as an “NPA” (No Party Affiliation). Via CNN (h/t: @mattklewis):
According to the Florida Secretary of State’s office, the order that candidates are listed on the state’s ballot is predetermined by law. The winner of the Republican primary will receive top billing, followed by the winner of the Democratic primary and then any candidates who have qualified to run as members of Florida’s more than 30 registered “minor parties.” These candidates are listed in the order in which they qualified for the ballot.

PA12: Republican Tim Burns Fights the Pork-Barrel Political Legacy of Jack Murtha
30 Apr 2010
10:07 am
Robert Stacy McCain
There’s a special election May 18 in Pennsylvania’s 12th District for a House seat formerly held by the late Jack Murtha. Republican Tim Burns is in a neck-and-neck fight with Democrat Mark Critz, a Murtha aide who specializes in pork-barrel earmarks. Charlie Cook recently switched this race from “toss-up” to “lean Republican.” Burns has been endorsed by Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich has called him “the next Scott Brown,” and Burns is featured in my latest column at The American Spectator:
Murtha’s ghost looms large over the 12th District, which sprawls …

Sweet! Unelected And Unaccountable Department To Have Your Bank Records

Personally, I am always amused at how Democrats position themselves through words as paragons of civil liberties, yet, when push comes to legislation, privacy and protection from government goes right out the window
The next time you make a withdrawal from an automated teller machine, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner might be watching over your shoulder. Boosted by the sweeping, 1,400-page financial regulatory proposal currently making its way through the Senate, Mr. Geithner would have unprecedented, real-time access to a wealth of personal and corporate financial …

White woman is raped by a Haitian man – white patriarchy is to blame?
30 Apr 2010
9:38 am
Tabitha Hale
It has taken me two days to respond to this:
Ever committed to preserving the dignity of Black men in a world which constantly stereotypes them as violent savages, I viewed this writing as yet one more opportunity to fight “the man” on behalf of my brothers. That night, before I could finish the piece, I was held on a rooftop in Haiti and raped repeatedly by one of the very men who I had spent the bulk of my life advocating for.

Women are not the source of their oppression; oppressive policies …

New York Is Moving In The Right Direction On Organ Transplants
30 Apr 2010
8:12 am
John Hawkins
Today in this country, there are more than 200,000 people waiting for an organ transplant. Many of these people will wait for years, bed ridden, ill, and a significant percentage of them will die without ever receiving the organ they needed to lead a normal life.
There is no practical reason that this problem still exists. We have the technology to handle the transplants. Insurance companies are willing to cover them. We could easily harvest enough organs from people dying in this country to provide all the organs we’d ever need. …

Friday Stupid: What Do Shakira’s Hips Say On Illegal Immigration?
30 Apr 2010
8:02 am
William Teach
OK, OK, everyone is entitled to have their say. This is America, after all, so, whatever she has to say must be super important, right?
Grammy Award-winning singer Shakira has joined the growing chorus of opposition to Arizona’s new immigration law.
Because that Grammy means quite a bit when it comes to American politics, giving her the base knowledge to discuss the issue which CNN misrepresents yet again.
Shakira met with leaders Thursday in Arizona Thursday before talking about the issue on CNN’s “AC 360.” She said some police and …

RWN’s New Comment System Is In Place
30 Apr 2010
5:22 am
John Hawkins
I expected to have RWN’s comment section changed over to Disqus last week-end, but best laid plans of mice and men and all that. In any case, the changeover is now complete.
Disqus is completely different from the in-house/word press hybrid that RWN was using up until yesterday. That means your old RWN login will no longer work. On the other hand, there are a lot of alternative ways to login to Disqus. You can create a new ID via Disqus or Open ID or you can use Twitter, Yahoo, or …

This Week In Quotes: April 22 – April 29

John Hawkins
You know, and by the way, my opponent (Mark Critz), he now says that — you know that he’s not liberal but yet he goes to Washington, D.C., he raises money with Nancy Pelosi. He brought Joe Biden in who says that he wants no more coal plants in America. He’s raising money from the liberals to come back to the district to claim that he’s not one. It’s crazy. — Tim Burns
Our culture has few taboos that can’t be violated, and our establishment has largely given up on setting …

Yawn … Tea Parties Are Racist (Nazis) Blah, Blah…
29 Apr 2010

Donald Douglas
Lots o’ stuff on the “racist’ tea parties today, for example, at Powerline, “The Smear Continues.” John Hinderaker laughs at the study from the University of Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity, Race & Sexuality, “2010 Multi-state Survey on Race & Politics.” And of course, the university’s research was picked up by Newsweek, “Are Tea Partiers Racist? A New Study Shows That the Movement’s Supporters Are More Likely to Be Racially Resentful.”
Or, ah, maybe they mean resentful like ruben_baruch@sbcglobal.net who (nearly unintelligibly) asked Michelle Malkin, “I just wondering how …
