Role of ACLU Decisive in Moving KSM Trial to New York
  29 Nov 2009     12:55 am      John Stephenson

Originally written for PJM:
Crossposted from STACLU:
Eric Holder called his decision to try the suspected plotters of 9/11 in New York City “the toughest decision I’ve had to make as attorney general.” It was unarguably the most controversial one. In my opinion, it was also the stupidest one. The decision has rightly received plenty of criticism, but what has not been talked about is the months of lobbying behind closed doors that made this happen. Meanwhile, one of the major players responsible for pushing this is popping the cork and cheering …

ACLU Protecting The Right to Flip Off Cops for $40K from Taxpayers
  29 Nov 2009     12:53 am      John Stephenson

Crossposted from STACLU:

I really just wanted an excuse to use the photo above:
Hackbart says that he was attempting to parallel park in April 2006 when he used his middle finger “to express his frustration” at a driver who pulled behind him and blocked his entry into the space.
Upon hearing a voice instruct him not to “flip off” the driver, he “directed his middle finger at the person speaking,” according to the lawsuit. That person turned out to be Sgt. Brian Elledge of the Pittsburgh Police Department.
Elledge ordered Hackbart …

Pumping Celebrity, White House Publishes Dinner-Crasher Pics on Flickr: Yet, Tareq and Michaele Security Breach a Major Blow to Obama Administration
  28 Nov 2009     3:51 pm      Donald Douglas

The mainstream press is right to note the major implications of Tuesday night’s security breach at the White House state dinner. For example, today’s Los Angeles Times reports, “State Dinner Crashers Met President Obama“:

The Secret Service says it’s ‘deeply concerned and embarrassed.’ The agency is looking into how such a security breach happened at the White House and whether Michaele and Tareq Salahi broke any laws.

And Ronald Kessler, who wrote a recent book on the Secret Service, reports, “Success of White House party crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi is …

Why Conservatives Have Trouble Getting Elected
28 Nov 2009     1:54 pm      Warner Todd Huston

The reasons that I could never get elected to any government position is the same reason why conservatives have a tough time getting elected and, if they end up elected, can’t govern in this era of the ill-educated voter. First I’ll lay out my main principles…
Leave me alone
Stop taxing me
Shove your regulations
That’s about it. Though there are complexities and nuance contained in them, these are the main tenets of modern conservatism simply put. And therein lies the problem. How can one get elected when his basic tenets are that government …

International Reporting of Climategate has Been Terrific, Not Ours
  28 Nov 2009     10:03 am      Alex Nobles

Americans do many things incredibly well. We are on top of the world in many ways. Our lack of real reporting is astounding. Our media is in cahoots with our government in a much greater way than any other advanced country. It as if we were living in china the way misinformation gets onto the airways. Some of it is just a plain bias, but I feel most of it actually stems from the lack of real reporting… and perhaps the very real presence of lobbying.
Climategate has rocked international news …

Climate Alarmists Point Out AGW Is About Politics And Junk Science
  28 Nov 2009     9:09 am      William Teach

Dr. Judith Curry, a climate scientist at Georgia Tech, pens a letter, originally publish at Climate Progress, and now at the NY Times. Let’s take a peek, shall we?
An open letter to graduate students and young scientists in fields related to climate research:
Based upon feedback that I’ve received from graduate students at Georgia Tech, I suspect that you are confused, troubled, or worried by what you have been reading about ClimateGate After spending considerable time reading the hacked emails and other posts in the blogosphere, I wrote an essay …

“I don’t believe in the no-win scenario.” Captain James T. Kirk
Who should conservatives be: Captain Kirk or John Galt? Duane Lester’s asking that question over at All American Blogger. James T. Kirk – the brash young Starfleet officer who became a brash old Starfleet officer who refuses to accept defeat no matter the odds. John Galt – the scientific and capitalist genius whose strategy for defeating socialism smacks of doing just that: accepting defeat, if only temporarily.
Duane writes:
Captain Kirk then attacked his challenges head on, often …

This Week In Quotes: Nov 20 – Nov 26
  28 Nov 2009     3:48 am      John Hawkins

No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems. They are trying to solve their own problems– of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is number three is far behind. — Michael Barone
What a good country or a good squirrel should be doing is stashing away nuts for the winter. The United States is not only not saving nuts, it’s eating the ones left over from the last winter. — William H. Gross

Did Hollywood Today Plagiarize American Power on Tareq Salahi’s Palestinian Ties?
  27 Nov 2009     9:25 pm      Donald Douglas

Look, the New York Times first broke the news that Tareq Salahi, the White House gate-crasher now under investigation for the massive state dinner security breach, had ties to Palestinian rights organization, ATFP.
After I saw that, I looked into it, and published my report, “Tareq Salahi, Gate-Crasher at White House State Dinner, Tied to ATFP, America-Bashing Palestinian Group Calling for Power-Sharing With Hamas!”
Jules Crittenden linked to the piece last night at his snarky entry, “O Presidency Shark Jumped.” And Ruby Slippers, also citing my post, emphasizes the potentially catastrophic nature …

Sarah Palin More Popular With Liberals Than Conservatives. No Joke.
  27 Nov 2009     4:54 pm      Alex Nobles

No, this is not meant to be a joke. Perhaps obsessed should replace popular in the title. Part of my job is to scour the web and to see what people are talking about. While I was browsing Democratic Underground today (extremely liberal forum,) I realized these people are obsessed with Palin. I do not mean a post here or there, I mean the forum is almost entirely devoted to Sarah Palin bashing. Looking at the most popular forum threads of the day, almost all of them are about …

Black Friday Launches Amid Consumer Retreat: Green Groups Seek to Shut Down Shopping; Wall Street Eyes Markets!
  27 Nov 2009     12:46 pm      Donald Douglas

My wife and oldest boy went shopping at midnight last night.
It turns out the much heralded “Black Friday” launch of the holiday shopping season kicked off at midnight Friday morning at Wal-Mart stores around the country. (Wal-Mart stores actually stayed open 24-hours, kind of like a preemptive strike against other merchants. Not far behind, Kohl’s stores were open as early as 4:00am, and next year we’ll again see the shopping season kick off in the Sandman hours.) A Wal-Mart in Upland, California, closed for a couple hours, following a heavy …

Why is “Climategate” Getting Little to no Coverage?
  27 Nov 2009     12:36 pm      Alex Nobles

In 2008 Dr. Roy Spencer wrote a book entitled “Climate Confusion: How Global Warming Hysteria Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians and Misguided Policies that Hurt the Poor.” Dr. Roy Spencer is the former Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. In this book he argues that the programs congress creates to “combat” global warming are rushed into law. Laws and policies are easily made when there is a “fear” that needs to be taken care of. Fear is a lawmakers best friend. Fear makes passing …

Another Obama Gitmo Official Resigns in Obama Smoke Screen Effort
27 Nov 2009     11:38 am      Warner Todd Huston

Earlier this month President Obama fired Greg Craig, his main counsel on matters concerning the Guantanamo Bay Facility — unless, of course, you really believe the claim that Craig resigned. And this week Obama sheds another one of his GITMO team with the resignation of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Defense for Detainee Policy Phillip Carter.
It appears that Obama’s GITMO team is being systematically eliminated. One has to ask, why? The only real answer has to be that Obama is setting up some plausible deniability by firing or forcing the resignation …

Science Czar John Holdren Involved in ClimateGate
  27 Nov 2009     11:05 am      Dave Blount

By now you don’t have to be a cynic not to be surprised that Chairman Zero’s Science Czar John Holdren — a totalitarian leftist who believes in forced abortion and has suggested putting sterilants in our drinking water — is implicated in ClimateGate, which has revealed the global warming crisis to be not only a hoax but an active conspiracy to mislead the public. Since the media in our country is also neck deep in the scam, I refer to Canada Free Press:
Lift up a rock and another snake comes …

Brazil’s da Silva Demands Free Money From “Gringos”
  27 Nov 2009     11:01 am      Dave Blount

The “make someone else pay for all the things I want” mentality that characterizes the base of our Community Organizer in Chief seems to have taken root in Brazil, where moonbat president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced that “gringos” should give South Americans free money in the name of the discredited global warming hoax:
Brazil’s president said Thursday that “gringos” should pay Amazon nations to prevent deforestation, insisting rich Western nations have caused much more past environmental destruction than the loggers and farmers who cut and burn trees in …

Today’s Girly Man Whine Courtesy Of E.J. Dionne, Jr.
  27 Nov 2009     10:00 am      William Teach

If it’s Thanksgiving, must be just another day to whine about how meanly Barry Obama is being treated
It’s now official: So in vogue are attacks on President Obama that even his proclamation calling the nation to a day of Thanksgiving has become the focus of criticism.
Presidential Thanksgiving messages are a routine bit of executive prose that most citizens happily ignore in this moment of national gratitude. But the sky-is-falling mood that pervades Obama commentary couldn’t let this 435-word document pass without a few sniffs of disapproval.
The Web site Gawker called …

Is Cap And Trade Actually Dead?
  27 Nov 2009     7:12 am      William Teach

The notion that global warming is caused by Mankind is certainly dead after ClimateGate, followed by the issues in New Zealand, and surely more to come. Scientists of all stripes, along with members of the media and academia, are feeling much freer this year to speak their minds and publish their dissent. Climate alarmists are in full retreat, spinning away, publishing even more alarmist claptrap, and just generally sticking their heads in the sand, covering their ears saying “lal la la la la I can’t hear you,” covering their eyes …

Palin / Bachman To Headline National Tea Party Event
  26 Nov 2009     10:29 pm      Dan Riehl

Hmm. CNN claims to have confirmed Sarah Palin’s role as keynote for a Nashville-based Tea Party event in February. The conference is being dubbed the first National Tea Party event. Formally speaking, perhaps. Though I suspect many who went to Washington’s protest might disagree. But this is being called a convention.
Very interesting as they are both Republicans and well received by the Tea Party crowd. I’m unclear of some of the different Tea Party organizations and how that plays into all this. It should be quite an event no matter what. But …
